What is a WhatsApp Business API template?
A template is reusable messaging content managed under a business's authorized WABA. Templates make it possible to initiate eligible customer communication outside the normal customer-service reply window, subject to the appropriate category, business consent and Meta policy. A plain text draft or scheduled campaign is not equivalent to an approved template.
Marketing, utility and authentication categories
Marketing templates may be used for promotional offers or product announcements where Meta policies and recipient permissions allow. Utility templates support transaction or service-related updates. Authentication templates support login or verification journeys and have specialized rules. Final classification and any charges are determined by Meta, not simply by the label chosen in a draft.
Template languages, parameters and review status
Templates have names, language codes, category information and message components. Variables should be validated and only populated with information appropriate for the specific opted-in recipient. The review workflow must distinguish pending, approved, rejected, paused and disabled states; localization and WABA identifiers cannot be assumed interchangeable.
What TryDataverse currently implements
Private staging supports authorized WABA/template synchronisation, guarded draft submission for marketing and utility text templates, Meta-status webhook processing, approval tracking and downgrade handling. The app does not silently self-approve a template. Authentication-template builders and richer media/interactive components are not yet available as a public customer workflow.
How approved templates fit with bulk WhatsApp campaigns
For planned broadcasts, approved template version, language, matching WABA, recipient opt-in and sender readiness need to be checked again at dispatch time. Templates can change status between scheduling and sending. The platform's delivery worker remains disabled for customers until verified Meta and merchant production activation.
